In an effort to protect ourselves from such issues in the future, we decided to not allow the img tag to be used; you have to upload the image to AOA, and any content uploaded to AOA is ours to do with as we see fit.

I don't really understand how AOA would be liable for another person's own stupidity, but mine is no longer to reason why.

Still, the link's worth it.

As I'm sure you are well aware, a lawsuit doesn't have to make sense in order for you to have to defend yourself against it.

In any case, as a matter of principle we prefer not to have content being served from us that isn't actually being served BY us.

I think it's a bit amusing that MS would be rushing for such a patent when until now, all windows OSes have granted root permissions by default, and on a permanent basis.

For example, if I simply disable System File Checker, I could easily delete essential parts of the OS without being warned by the OS. The only way you could do such a thing (file operations outside of /home) on a Unix/Linux system is to enter the password, and hopefully, that means you know what you are doing.

I guess that they have finally come to the realization that unrestricted root permissions aren't such a good idea...

I mean, really now, the purpose of the sudo tool is to allow a user with the proper password to temporarily grant himself root rights for a premeditated reason, no?
