Sony advising all owners of non-Slim PS3 consoles to switch-off

Playstation 3 consoles around the world are experiencing serious problems after a major blunder by Sony, which relates to the system date and time.  They are telling all owners of the older fatter consoles to leave them switched off, until they've worked out how to fix the issue.

It would seem likely that the older consoles are not handling leap year checking correctly, and instead of rolling the system date over to today, 1st of March 2010, the system date has been changed to 1st of January 2000.

So far, there are no reports of the newer slim models being affected by this.

So, if you have the older model, don't use it all, until further notice.  Updates will appear on the Playstation Blog, and their Twitter page.
