From Linspire.com:

"Earlier this year, at the Desktop Linux Summit, I announced the new Freespire community project. At that time, we set out a Roadmap with a projected release date for the first version of Freespire of September 1, 2006. I'm very excited and proud to announce that the Freespire community and Linspire engineers have rallied and launched Freespire 1.0 today, nearly a month ahead of schedule!"

Linspire is a commercial Linux distribution that aims to make Linux friendly and easy to use for anyone who is familiar with Windows.  It also includes access to a software repository where users of Linspire can download thousands of free and commercial applications.  Freespire is a freely downloadable and distributable version of Linspire, with slightly fewer features and no support.

Thanks to Cadaveca for bringing this to our attention!
