"Chinese-American businessman John Hui has bought computer maker Packard Bell, the third-biggest manufacturer of PCs in Europe, Packard Bell announced today.

'There were a lot of candidates for the takeover of Packard Bell, including a number of investment funds,' said Packard Bell chief executive Aymar de Lencquesaing.

'The takeover by John Hui offers us the possibility of having an industrial shareholder who understands the cycles of the industry and above all is well connected in China and in Taiwan at a time when the industry is shifting to these countries.'"
