Reuters is reporting that Sony's inclusion of the $150-$200 Blu-Ray player in the PS3 in an attempt to 'seed' the Blu-Ray disc market may be backfiring.  Apparently there is a perception that the die-hard fan boyz will buy the unit at any price, but after you've saturated that market, the remainder of sales will be to people who are a bit more, err, 'frugal'.

Gee, fancy that; normal people actually pay attention to price tags!  Who would have ever guessed that?

"Blu-ray's here to stay. The likelihood of people using PS3s as DVD players is significant, particularly when you're talking about millions of consoles Sony expects to sell," said Andy Parsons, spokesperson for the Blu-Ray Disc Association.  "We think the same will happen with the PS3 and Blu-ray."

However, 1Up Network editorial director John Davison has a slightly different opinion.  "PS3 will live and die by the games it plays. The fact it's a DVD player is a bonus, but not why people bought it."
