Despite the forthcoming availability of combo HD-DVD/Blu-Ray players, the people behind Blu-Ray insist the war is still on and they are winning. The backers of HD-DVD aren't about to drop out either.

So far, sales of both types of player have been slow and there are an even number of titles available in both formats.

Blu-Ray does have an effective advantage, Sony owns some serious disk reproduction facilities. They also, own a lot of film titles. At present more manufacturers are producing Blu-Ray hardware. Plus, the new Playstation comes with a Blu-Ray player built-in.

There is a HD-DVD player available for the Xbox 360, but it doesn't come as standard. On the otherhand, there are more Xbox 360s in people's homes compared to PS3s. Exactly how long the situation will stay that way remains to be seen.

I can't see that any clear winner will emerge until both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray players become more affordable to the masses.
