San Francisco is encountering problems with disagreements over the proposed new wi-fi deal for the city.  The current plan involves a free 300 kbps connection and an optional faster 1 Mbps, costing $22 a month.  Both of which would be wireless allowing access more or less anywhere in San Francisco.

Those speeds are not particularly fast by today's standards, and they have not even begun to build this yet.  An alternative plan would involve fibre optic cables, which would be much faster and more expensive no doubt.

The full story on this is here.
