Home generator How about your own gas powered generator in the basement?  If you think this sounds daft, think again.  Such systems are already in use in some homes, and you don't need a basement.

The main bonus of generating electricity this way, is that the heat given off by the generator is captuered and used to heat the home.  This gives substantial energy and money savings during the cold months of the year.  Another benefit, is that you have your own back-up power supply in the event of a cut on the main grid.

The generator runs on gas and is therefore very clean.  Read more on this here.
