The Sony game "Resistance: Fall of Man" features a 3D model of the interior of the Manchester Cathedral.  Players of the game can engage in a bloody shoot-out inside the cathedral.

The Church of England is saying that Sony did not seek permission to use the cathedral in the game which has sold over a million copies, so far.  Sony says that it has sought permission where it needed to.

The Church is demanding an apology and for the game to be withdrawn from sale.  If not, they say that they will sue Sony.

David Wilson, a Sony spokesman, told The Times newspaper: "It is game-created footage, it is not video or photography.

"It is entertainment, like Doctor Who or any other science fiction. It is not based on reality at all. Throughout the whole process we have sought permission where necessary."

The Dean of Manchester Cathedral, The Very Revd Rogers Govender, also hit out at Sony's decision to feature the cathedral, saying "We are shocked to see a place of learning, prayer and heritage being presented to the youth market as a location where guns can be fired."
