If you're into hacking, you'd know about the "BlackHat" conference. A researcher (Michael Lynn) had been going to publish details of issues with Cisco routers, entitled "The Holy Grail: Cisco IOS Shellcode and Exploitation Techniques". However, there was a whole bunch of nastiness going on, the guy ended up resigning from the place he worked, and Cisco got nasty (See this PDF). BlackHat ended up removing the paper, so people couldn't get hold of it. Like that'd stop things! Cisco seem to have backed down a bit now.

However, the PDF of the presentation is out there on the web, and mirrored in many many places. The cat is out of the bag, and Cisco routers WILL be targetted by hackers who now know a bit more about how to attack them. If you have a Cisco router, then the best thing you can do is try to keep it's firmware as up to date as you can.

Just so you can get a feel of the presentation, here's my favourite slide from it.

Cyberspace is not a safe place, so be careful out there. To save you looking to far, Lynn's presention can be found over on indymedia, but be warned, it's pretty technical
