3DMark06 seams to be the best new version of the veteran benchmark since 3DMark2001 in its evaluation of a gaming system as a whole, however many people have been having problems running it. There is a known issue with VIA Chipsets running the VIA IDE Accelerator Driver, or the most recent Hyperion Driver sets which it is included in. The problem causes a BSOD when 3DMark06 tries to start, throwing videport.sys as the driver causing the BSOD. The workaround is opening Device Manager and disabling the Primary, Secondary, and Bus Mastering IDE controllers (All 3 of them). This allows normal operation of 3DMark06, and the IDE controllers can be re-enabled within windows without a reboot. This is only possible for SATA hard drive users, so if you are using PATA, you will have to wait for a new driver, or a 3DMark06 patch. For those having stability issues in the CPU tests, reduce your overclock, and make sure your temperatures are under control. This program seams to tax CPUs extremely heavily, and any faults will be brought to the surface. Also, for anyone who has had problems download 3DMark06 from AOAFiles, the issue causing that has been fixed, and the AOA servers are in great shape speed wise.
