From Bit-tech.net:
We spend a lot of our time testing and reviewing some of the most expensive and desirable computer hardware on earth, all of which has one element in common – a relentless thirst for power. It’s therefore strange that many people regard the humble PSU as a component on which they can skimp; after all, why pay extra cash when doing so won’t net you any extra frame rates?
This line of reasoning couldn’t be further from the truth; a PC is only as strong as its weakest component, and there’s little point buying that expensive graphics card or CPU if your PSU doesn’t have the ability to power it. Many cheap generic models can’t even output their claimed wattage and are also often unstable. A poor PSU can also cause stability issues, excessive electric noise or even component failure in extreme cases.
