Apple iPad wi-fi woes
Mobile Devices

Quick to blame everyone, but itself

Apple's own support forum is overrun with not so happy iPad owners complaining about connection issues on their shiny new tablet computers.

It would appear that many owners are finding that the iPad frequently drops the wi-fi connection to their router, despite the fact that other devices work just fine in the same location.

Apple has made several suggestions on possible fixes, including renaming networks on routers use both 802.11b/g, and 802.11n, so that the two frequencies don't have the same name.  They have even suggested standing closer to the router, which kind of defeats the point of having wi-fi.

Any fixes involving reconfiguring the router won't help when connecting to public hotspots, because only the network owner can make changes.

It may be that those having issues are in the minority, but how do you know if your going to have this problem or not, before buying one?

My suggestion would be to avoid buying one in the first place, until either they fix the problem, or the 3G model becomes available in about one month from now.  If the problem lies in the iPad's hardware, then fixing devices already sold will be a major pain for Apple, and their customers.
