In our continuing efforts to improve the quality of AOA for our users, we have made some modifications to the code that runs the files site:
- Logins are NO LONGER REQUIRED in order to download files. World+dog may now download at will.
- World+dog is bandwidth limited to 100KiB/Second. Logged in members are bandwidth limited to 150 KiB/Second, Subscribers get full pipe bandwidth.
- World+dog has lowest priority access to files, members have medium access, and Subscribers have highest priority access. What this means is that in situations where the server is heavily loaded with downloads (like the release of a very popular file) Subscribers will get their download request serviced first, logged in members next, and everyone else as the resources come available.
- Ads are handled the same way as in the forums; non-subscribers see all ads, subscribers see only the top banner ad.
- The directory list now only shows the File Title (or name if no Title has been set), and description. When you click on the 'File Information' link, it will take you to a second page which shows you all of the detailed information about the file, along with a download link to the actual file. Direct links to the file download will be redirected to the file information page.
- The MD5 hash of the file is displayed on the file information page and sent along with the file as part of the HTTP header. Most modern browsers should support this, and will automatically compute the MD5 hash on the recieved file and compare it with the MD5 hash sent in the HTTP header to ensure file transfer integrity. Even if your browser doesn't support this (or you are paranoid) you can manually compute the MD5 hash on the file by using a program such as MD5Sum and comparing the result against the published file hash.
It is our hope that these changes will make AOAFiles an even more useful resource to you in the future than it has been in the past.

Recently, we saw some images of the new 3D based desktop manager for linux, called XGL, which uses OpenGL to render the desktop, with a range of very impressive special effects. There is now a Linux Live CD called Kororaa based on the Gentoo Linux Operating system, that uses XGL right off the disk! This means that you simply download the ISO, burn it to a disk, boot off it, and you have a fully operational linux system, running the XGL 3D desktop manager. It really is one of the easiest, and coolest ways to get into Linux! Click Here To Download the Kororaa XGL 3D Linux 0.1 Live CD From AOAFiles.com Alternatively there is a full installation package for Kororaa. This full installer version does NOT use the XGL 3D desktop however, the next release of it is expected to! It comes in two parts, an installer, and a packages disk. Both of the disks are required for the installation. The title is a quote taken from our very own signature maker, and X1900XT owner Pitch, who undoubtably is happy that ATI has finally released a new driver that works correctly with his high end card. The 6.2 Catalysts feature many fixes to BattleField 2, World of Warcraft, and many other games. It is stable and effective with the ATI X1000 series, bringing another X1900XT owner, Bradmax57, a 400-500 point 3DMark06 performance boost. These drivers seam to be a very nice set, and are Highly Recommended for all ATI X1000 series owners. Particularly those with shiny new R580s. Futuremark have just released their FREE Basic Edition of 3DMark06! 3DMark06 Features full DirectX 9.0C, Shader Model 3.0, and HDR (High Dynamic Range Lighting). Due to this, the minimum requirements are extremely high.
To run 3DMark06, you need a MINIMUM of: - 1024MB System RAM
- A Shader Model 2.0 Video card with 256MB RAM
- A 2.5Ghz Intel or 2500+ AMD CPU
- Windows XP
- DirectX 9.0C
This means most S478 or Socket A machines will seriously struggle, and budget cards with 128MB RAM will be very seriously crippled, as texture swapping will be required. To run HDR tests, a video card is required to have SM3.0, HDR, 16Bit FP Texture support, and 16Bit FP Blending support. If you think your system is up to it: Click Here To Download 3DMark06 1.0.2 Basic Edition (576.9 MiB)
