Russia will soon have the 60th fastest supercomputer in the world, with the help of Tyan Computer and Chenbro Microcom, according to this story at DigiTimes.  What's so special about that?  Well, not so much, I guess.  What's noteworthy is not what it is, but how it will be built:  using 283 nodes, with two Intel Xeon 5150 Woodcrest CPUS per node, on Tyan Tempest i5000VF (S5380) dual-processor server motherboards and Chenbro RM11702 1U rackmount chassis.

The unit is expected hit a Linpack benchmark performance of 7.8 TFLOPS.  It will be the fastest computer in not only Russia, but Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States.
