Sony's new noise cancelling headphones, the MDR-NC60, will reduce ambient noise levels by 16.5dB or more, at the 200kHz level. An electronic noise canceling circuit creates an equal and opposite sound wave to cancel such noise, creating a quieter environment for enhanced listening of music from portable audio devices or in-flight movies.

The noise cancelling feature means you won't need to turn up the volume, and potentialy damage your hearing, when listening in noisey environments.
