Music executives insist on protection

In a response to Steve Jobs open letter, an anonymous record company executive has said "we're not going to broadly license our content for unprotected digital distribution.".  This is quote is taken from MacNN's article on this topic.

I can't help but be a little confused here, after all the record companies are selling digital music on CDs which has no copy protection.  Yet they insist that the same music track must be copy protected if it is sold online.
