CMR looks to cut cost of fuel cells

Cambridge, England-based CMR Fuel Cells is to work with inkjet printing specialist Xaar and Belgian chemicals group Solvay to develop a single-step process to make fuel cell stacks.

“This collaboration opens up the possibility of realizing improvements to the cost effectiveness, size and reliability of our fuel cell stacks -- all of which are crucially important to our partners seeking portable power solutions for the consumer electronics industry,” said CMR’s CEO John Halfpenny.

This is encouraging news for fuel cell development in the U.K. Only last year a study funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) warned that the potential of fuel cell technology was being neglected in the U.K. with insufficient support from industry and government.
