Intel spends $1bn on 45nm upgrade

Intel has announced plans to invest between $1 billion and $1.5 billion into upgrading its existing 90nm fabrication facility in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, to turn out chips based on the company's new 45nm process. Fab 11X, which is currently a 300mm, 90nm facility will go online with Intel's new 45nm process in the second half of 2007.  Continues...
