There have been endless rumors the last week or so of just what the new Xbox 360 Elite would be. Microsoft has formally announced the product, so we can now say with certainty what the Xbox 360 Elite is, and what it isn't. There's also good news on the accessory front.

First, the basics. Aside from the obviously new all-black finish, the two most notable changes involve a new 120GB hard drive and the addition of an HDMI port (and cable) to the unit. Both features are aimed primarily at the Xbox Live Video Marketplace, which appears to be going quite well for Microsoft.

The Elite will also include a black wireless controller and headset as well as the default Xbox Live Silver membership.

Suggested price is $479.00, or about $90 more than the "premium" Xbox. For what Microsoft is charging for the add-on hard drive, this is a good deal. Users wanting to pick up the 120GB hard drive by itself will face a MSRP of $179.99.

When can you get in line for one of these units? They go on sale starting April 29 in the US. Microsoft has made no announcement about availability in other regions.....
