AU Optronics (AUO), Chi Mei Optoelectronics (CMO), Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT), and HannStar Display, have all seen clients starting to ask for their shipment forecasts for next year, while in the past such inquiries would not begin until the end of the third quarter, the sources said.

The early inquiries are a sign showing that the clients are trying to secure supply as early as possible, the sources commented.

CMO expects its TV panel unit shipments to increase as much as 40%, and shipments by panel area will increase even more, the sources said, adding some CMO clients from the PC sector have already placed long-term orders. Sources with AUO said the company expects demand to remain strong next year, but as the panel industry capacity expansion for 2008 will be limited, clients are advancing their planning for panel sourcing.
