After reading this news article at the BBC, I decided to remove some of my photos from Facebook. I don't like Facebook, but I have friends who insist on using it.

That article just made me think that you don't know what these companies might get up to with "your" photos. Looking at the terms on Facebook, they can effectively put any photo posted there, even private ones, to whatever commercial use they like.  They won't pay you a single penny, or even give credit.

It's worth bearing in mind that photos you share with your friends, may well end up being shared with the world, without your prior knowledge.
