AMD Working On Tri-Core CPUs

It looks like AMD will be producing a three core part, based on the new Barcelona architecture to compete in the middle ground between existing dual core solutions, and high end quad core parts.  This could be quite a beneficial tack for AMD, as if yeilds on quad core Barcelona chips are not as good as they could have been, potentially one core may be disabled if it is at fault, resulting in a working tri core chip.  Potentially this could even allow for higher clockspeeds if it is possible to cull a working, yet lower performing core to achieve a higher clock on the remaining three.

Either way, it is a nice option to have that Intel currently is incapable of exploiting, given their current technology.
