Microsoft's plan to maximize revenue by creating as many differently-priced Stock Keeping Units (SKUs) of Windows Vista has generated some debate as to the merits of Vista's product divisions. At the very high end, Microsoft has positioned Vista "Ultimate Edition" as the end-all, be-all of the Windows Vista experience, but it comes at a price: Ultimate costs $160 more than Premium for a new copy and $100 more for an upgrade. This is what you get for the extra money:

Complete PC backup and restore
BitLocker Drive encryption
Windows Fax & Scan
Ultimate "Extras"

As you can see, the Ultimate Extras play an important role in the "value proposition" of Vista Ultimate. Unfortunately, many of these "Extras" steadfastly failed to materialize after the OS was released, leading Microsoft to apologize for the situation and promising results before the close of summer. Summer passed a few days ago without word from Microsoft, and when we contacted them for comment, we were told that the director of Windows Vista Ultimate would issue an official apology on his blog today while announcing the release of some of what was promised.
