IBM Vs. HP: Supercomputer Showdown

IBM is no longer the computing powerhouse synonymous with the word 'mainframe'.  But it still dominates the big iron market, according the Top500 List, a twice-annual ranking of the world's top supercomputers. According to this story at , the top-ranked computer in the world is IBM's Roadrunner, a supercomputer for the military that is used to model the deterioration of America's nuclear weapons stockpile.  The machine is built using more than 12,000 'cell' processors, chips similar to the CPU at the heart of Sony's Playstation 3.
