Those of you with long memories will remember that Sony released an official version of Linux for the PS2. In a repeat of the same move, the PS3 will be able to support a 2.5 inch hard disk, and Sony are going to release a version of Linux for the PS3. According to Sony president Ken Kutaragi, Sony will release the PS3 hard disk with Linux pre-installed on it. There's no news as to the availability of a Linux distro that could be installed should you buy your own hard disk however.

Let's just hope that it does a better job of supporting monitors than the PS2 Linux did. Originally, they only supported Sync on Green monitors. However, with the nVidia RSX chip, we don't see that really being a problem with the PS3.
